Why we built Local Rewards

There’s a quiet strength in local businesses. They open early, stay open late, and serve their communities in ways no big chain ever could.
They sponsor kids’ sports teams, know their regulars by name, and create jobs that stay in the neighborhood.

But in recent years, local businesses have been squeezed from all sides — by big-box chains, tech platforms, and even cross-border competition that drains money out of our economy.

As Canadians, we often underestimate how closely our economic independence is tied to our local businesses. The more we rely on platforms or companies headquartered elsewhere, the more our communities lose control over their own future.

That’s why we built Local Rewards.

It’s not just about loyalty points. It’s about making it easier to support your favorite local spot — and giving those businesses a simple, powerful way to earn repeat visits and grow sustainably.
Just a better way to shop local.

We believe that when dollars stay in the community, everyone wins — not just the business, but the families, schools, and neighborhoods that surround it.
Local Rewards is our small part in helping that happen — one customer at a time.
